Course Overview

A Learning & Skills Mentor (LSM) operates within various sectors and can be found in organisations where training and development is required, such as business, education, healthcare, marketing, and technology.

Their purpose is to support learners by providing development opportunities that will aide them in their career journey. When providing support, LSMs follow ethical and legal guidelines to ensure high standards and compliance within the mentoring practice.

They are versatile in their ability to adapt to their environment, enabling them to interact with internal and external stakeholders, as is needed to do their job and support learners under their supervision. They will also work collaboratively with stakeholders to inclusively meet the individual needs of the learner, while also being committed to their own professional development as a mentor. The support that they provide must also adapt to the situation, as guidance can be delivered both in person and remotely, to suit the needs of the learner, employer, and situation.

In summary, LSMs play a crucial role in professional development by helping people succeed in various fields. Their skills in adapting to different situations, following ethical guidelines, working well with others, continually improving, and providing flexible support highlight their essential role in guiding individuals’ career paths across different industries.

What & How you'll learn

End Point Assessment​

The End Point Assessment (EPA) will only commence once the Employer, Apprentice, and Protocol Consultancy Services are confident that the apprentice has developed all the knowledge, skills, and behaviours defined in the apprenticeship standard. Evidence of this will also be visible throughout the progress review meetings and records. The independent EPA ensures that all apprentices consistently achieve the industry-set professional standard. The EPA can commence at any point once the apprentice is competent and after the twelve-month minimum period of learning and development. However, before the independent EPA can take place, the apprentice must have completed their functional skills components in English and Maths.

Off the Job (OJT)

The apprentice must receive off-the-job training for a minimum of 20% of the time they are paid to work.
