What are your main responsibilities?

My primary duties each day are running a payroll and answering the phone to anyone calling the business, as well as collecting and dealing with the post when needed.

Pathway Selected
I had initially attended sixth form and had completed year 12 in the hope of studying Primary education at university. I decided to leave in the first part of year 13 after deciding I’d had enough of school and wanted a change. After browsing the apprenticeships.org.uk website I applied for a receptionist vacancy provided by Protocol. As a result, I attended an interview with Protocol and was offered an alternative interview within a few days with Interior Fitout. After been accepted by the company I left sixth form on the Friday and started work on the following Monday.
What is your working environment like?

My working environment is relaxed and friendly. There isn’t the strict dress code as expected in schools or other offices. It can go from being really quiet to busy in a matter of minutes which helps to keep interesting.

Who do you work with? (Departments, Work colleagues)

The business I work for is small and so I work with two male colleagues daily, however, I am in contact with a third party company regularly also.

What do you like about your job?

My favourite part of my job is getting to know all the clients and employees through regular phone calls. I also enjoy the flexibility within the office from the dress code to breaks.

What are the main challenges you face on a daily basis?

The main challenges I face on a day to day basis is collecting time sheets off employees and understanding the array of accents.

How do you overcome these challenges, should you require assistance?

During my time with the business and constant contact with the other employees, the daily tasks have become easier, as has my understanding of the accents. This could still be improved, but all that is needed is time.
