Briefly state your journey prior to starting your Apprenticeship at Protocol?

Prior to starting my apprenticeship at Protocol, my journey took an unexpected turn due to the COVID-19 outbreak, which led to my redundancy from my previous apprenticeship placement. Despite this setback, Protocol remained supportive, enabling me to complete the Social Media Level 3 Framework. As restrictions eased, they offered me part-time work when job opportunities were non-existent, fostering my professional growth. Shortly after, I joined their Kickstart programme and enrolled in the Digital Support Technician Level 3 apprenticeship to contribute to their IT team.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

I chose an apprenticeship because I believe in continuous learning and enjoy gaining new skills. The DST3 apprenticeship was particularly appealing as it offered a diverse range of skills that I lacked and allowed me to engage actively rather than just sitting at a desk.

How has the apprenticeship programme helped you personally and professionally?

Personally, the apprenticeship at Protocol has significantly boosted my confidence, both in my abilities and in social settings. Starting my first real job at 22 with the support of Protocol Consultancy Services has been pivotal in my personal development. Professionally, I’ve gained qualifications that enhance my appeal to future employers, demonstrating my capabilities and willingness to learn.

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced since you started your apprenticeship?

The biggest challenge since starting my apprenticeship has been managing my time effectively. Balancing IT support duties, which require flexibility due to sudden technical issues, with my digital marketing responsibilities was demanding. However, through weekly feedback and team meetings, I’ve maintained control over my workload and consistently achieved my goals.

Where do you see yourself in the future

Looking ahead, as my time at Protocol concludes due to my relocation to Wales, I aim to pursue remote work opportunities. Remote work aligns with my sustainability goals and provides flexibility in location while leveraging my skills in IT support and digital marketing.
