Briefly state your journey prior to starting your Apprenticeship at Protocol?

Before starting my apprenticeship with Protocol and B Music, I finished a level 3 business studies course at College and obtained a national diploma. Unfortunately due to Covid 19 I was unable to get a work placement, as per government guidelines the country was in Lockdown. Not many employers were keen to take me on due to my lack of experience so I decided to join Protocol on a Traineeship programme before finding a HR apprenticeship.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

As stated before, my lack of work experience really  stunted my growth in developing my knowledge and skills. The Apprenticeship programme really enhanced the few skills I had at the time and allowed me to develop new abilities along the way. It professionally helped me as I now have a really good understanding of HR and how it works within an office-based environment. Not only did it help me develop my skills but it also really made a difference in my confidence. The apprenticeship programme really pushed me outside my comfort zone, but I’m grateful I persevered.

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced since you started your apprenticeship?

The biggest challenge I faced when first starting my apprenticeship was adjusting to a working environment. As this was my first job, it was really nerve racking and stressful. I was afraid to make mistakes because I thought my employer would be disappointed and dissatisfied with my work. But thanks to having a really understanding manager and with Protocol providing assistance, I settled in right away.

Where do you see yourself in the future

Within the next 5 years, my desire is to complete at level 5 HR apprenticeship and obtain a level 5 CIPD so that I can compete for a HR manager position.

Within the next year, I hope to find a HR administration or assistant position to put my knowledge and skills to practice.
