Briefly state your journey prior to starting your Apprenticeship at Protocol?

I worked in a completely different industry and wanted a career change. In my previous employment, I worked closely with customers and colleagues so had a brief understanding of what a HR job role involves. Therefore, I made the decision to completely change my career and am really enjoying my role at The Haulage Group Ltd.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

I chose an apprenticeship because I feel that I personally learn more by doing the job at the same time as learning about it. Being around people who have had so many years of experience allows me to learn more and gives me the motivation to want to achieve just as much as they have when progressing in my career.

How has the apprenticeship programme helped you personally and professionally?

It has helped me personally by giving me more confidence, for example, if I am struggling with something then I will go to someone for help. Whereas before I would be scared to ask for help constantly – but because I need to learn this was something that I definitely needed to improve. As well as this, it has made me believe in myself more. I have now completed my EPA and gained a distinction with the help of both Protocol staff and the office staff. This has given me a massive confidence boost.

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced since you started your apprenticeship?

It would have to be making sure that all the Company policies and procedures are up to date with any changes that may have occurred since I started. Doing this, means that all the people that may be affected by it would need to be told as well. I have enjoyed learning about all of this and how to deal with tough situations – I am very lucky to have such great support around me where I work.

Where do you see yourself in the future

Within the next 5 years, I will hopefully be working towards or have completed my Level 5 in HR, enhancing my existing knowledge and skills, as well as supporting career progression.

Within the next year, I want to continue developing my knowledge and skills within the field of HR, and hopefully secure a promotion.
