Before starting my apprenticeship at Protocol, I worked in retail for a year and then spent another year in cleaning. These roles helped me develop strong work habits and customer service skills, which prepared me for the next step in my career.
I chose an apprenticeship because it offers a great way to learn practical skills while earning financially and gaining real work experience. It felt like the best path to build my career without the heavy costs of traditional education in a climate where the job market is unstable to say the least, and I liked the idea of learning directly in a professional environment.
Personally, it’s boosted my confidence, improved my communication skills, and taught me how to manage my time more effectively. Professionally, it’s given me hands-on experience, practical skills, and a clearer understanding of the property industry, which has helped me feel more prepared and capable in my role.
The biggest challenge I’ve faced since starting my apprenticeship has been adjusting to the balance between work and study. Managing deadlines while learning on the job was difficult at first, but over time I’ve developed better organisation and time management skills, which has made it more manageable.

My main goal right now is to continue progressing through my Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship while developing a strong understanding of my role. Over the next year, I’m aiming to become an expert in my field by building my knowledge, confidence and practical experience.
Looking ahead, my ambition is to grow within FirstPort and work towards becoming a Property Manager with my own portfolio within the next five years. Since starting my apprenticeship, I’ve gained valuable hands-on experience and developed skills that are helping me move closer to that goal.
