Henry

What are your main responsibilities?

My responsibilities include; working within the admin team, undertaking work given to me by my supervisor which include filing, scanning, sorting and arranging certificates, updating company spreadsheets plus general office duties.

Pathway Selected

When I left school I didn’t have the GCSE’s I had hoped for so I went into a hairdressing apprenticeship which I thought I wanted to do, whilst working in a salon I learnt a lot of the business side of the company. After two years of working in a salon I was let go and left with no job, I then started to think about what I really wanted to do with my life and realised within my two years of experience I had most enjoyed the Business Admin side so I decided to change my career into something I would enjoy more.

As I was unemployed I went to the job centre for help, JCP put me on JSA whilst I was looking for work, I applied for so many things then I stumbled across the Business Admin apprenticeship with Protocol on Apprenticeships.org.

As soon as I started with protocol I had a good feeling, all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Protocol has now found me an apprenticeship with a company called Prolink Associates. This has allowed me to sign off JSA and I am now learning lots of new exciting things and receiving personal development at the same time whilst getting paid.

What is your working environment like?

The working environment is very friendly and all of my staff members are polite.

Who do you work with? (Departments, Work colleagues)

As a business administrator, I work closely with the admin department, but my daily duties can cause interaction with colleagues throughout the business.

What do you like about your job?

What I like about my job is interacting with other learners and the staff. The working week can also get hectic and fast paced which I enjoy.

What are the main challenges you face on a daily basis?
Being introduced to new tasks can be challenging, as I have never encountered them before and therefore am unsure of how to approach them or any issues that may come up on the way.
How do you overcome these challenges, should you require assistance?
Through advice and guidance provided by my employer and Protocol Consultancy Services, I have been able to tackle problems head on with a greater understanding of what to do and how to achieve my goals.
