What are your main responsibilities?

As IT support, my responsibilities include keeping the on-site computing systems up-to-date and operational and resolving any technical issues that arise daily. As well as, assisting with off-site learning when required, and tasks relating to Business Administration.

Pathway Selected

I originally started on a Traineeship through the Jobcentre. To finish the Traineeship programme, I was required to complete 200 hours of work experience. The Protocol IT team took me on for work experience, and I progressed to the point where I was able to do an IT Practitioner apprenticeship within the company. I’ve now been working at Protocol for almost 2 years, and I’m on my second qualification, which is a Business Administration Level 2.

What is your working environment like?

I work in a largely office-based environment with a group of friendly and helpful colleagues. As well as students who are dedicated to lifelong learning and enhancing their current skills.

Who do you work with? (Departments, Work colleagues)

As my position within the business is IT support, I deal with a range of departments and colleagues that span across the entire business, whether that means updating their systems, resolving any issues that arise, and even driving to external locations to assist with off-site learning.

What do you like about your job?

Through this apprenticeship, I have grown more confident when dealing with other staff members, learners, and customers. I’m able to communicate in more of a professional manner and have developed a greater understanding of my IT responsibilities which will make me a valuable member of any team moving forward.

What are the main challenges you face on a daily basis?

Assisting colleagues with learners when they need advice or help with their work, taking trips to external companies to provide support for the tutor where needed, and making sure the IT hardware runs smoothly and reliably.

How do you overcome these challenges, should you require assistance?

I try my best, stay positive, continue to tackle any task with enthusiasm, and I am not afraid to ask for assistance when needed, but like with many tasks, the more I do them, the better I become.
