As of 1st April 2019 Protocol have secured funding through the European Social Fund and the Education Skills Funding Agency; and are looking to work with Black Country businesses who are located within the council areas of Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton to develop training plans to identify and tackle skills gaps; helping you to grow your business. (Funding available until July 2021)

Skills Support for Workforce is an initiative for small and medium sized (SME with less than 249 employees) businesses in the Black Country.
It offers fully-funded training and qualifications to support lesser-skilled individuals to improve their career opportunities and their existing skills and knowledge through work-based learning. The Skills Support for the Workforce programme is managed by Serco and is co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA). We provide recognised accredited qualifications and bespoke training courses to enhance your employees’ skills, increase the competitiveness of your business and boost the local economy.
Protocol Consultancy Services is part of Serco’s network of expert organisations chosen to deliver the SSW programme in your area in partnership with Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
Because SSW is co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), we can support your workforce at no extra cost to your business.
Would you or your employees be interested in attending a fully funded taster training session or a bespoke training programmes (Level 1 to Level 4 available)?
We are offering one and two day workshops, as well as the opportunity of bespoke training programmes.

- ECDL / IT Tasters (Spreadsheet, Word, PP and/or Using Email)
- Customer Service Workshop
- Customer Service Workshop (Including Welcome Host Gold)
- Social Media Workshop
- Business Improvement Techniques (LEAN concepts / Kaizen)
- Coaching Workshop
- Mentoring Workshop
- Sales Workshop
- English Functional Skills Level 1 and Level 2
- Maths Functional Skills Level 1 and Level 2
- Assessor Qualification
Protocol are also working on this contract with other training providers from all sectors that may be able to offer training in areas that we do not cater for enabling staff to receive training across all aspects of your organisation including engineering, construction etc.
Protocol is looking to arrange appointments with any employers who may be interested in the scheme that will be running from April 2019 until July 2021.
Protocol have a Training Needs Analysis document that would need to be completed by each employer to find out what their current and future need for training is/will be.
All taster training sessions are FULLY FUNDED and will be held at a venue in the Black Country during the daytime (Monday to Friday).
If an employer has more than 5 employees that they would like to train (on the same course) then we may be able to offer the training sessions on site at the employer premises providing the employer has the appropriate training facilities.
Once we have gauged the need for specific training we will look to see if we can offer any of the training that the employer needs and work with them to help up skill their staff through an NVQ or a full intermediate or advanced Apprenticeship. We will also be offering our recruitment services to any employer who is currently looking to employ an Apprentice.
The local LEP are looking for progression opportunities upon completion of the training, with progression being through any of the below;
- Progression in Work (Pay rise, hours increase, increased responsibility through promotion to new job role)
- Progression in EDU (Completion of a higher level course in addition to the initial workshop or further training sessions at the same initial course level)
- Progression onto an Apprenticeship
