My Journey Before Protocol

In the summer of 2020, I left high school. I then completed an employability training course through a provider where I gained support with CV writing, and interview preparation. With no previous work experience, I was looking for employment opportunities with no luck, before registering on the apprenticeship website and applying for an apprenticeship with New Harvest.

Why an Apprenticeship?

I wasn’t hearing back from employers for FTE and knew about apprenticeships offering earn while you learn. After seeing an advert, I applied through Protocol for a Warehouse apprentice required to work for New Harvest in Birmingham. I liked the fact that I could upskill in my maths and English alongside my qualification. After being  successful at the screening process with Protocol and then an interview with New Harvest, I secured an apprenticeship position as a Warehouse Operator. Protocol supported me through the whole application process and my apprenticeship journey again in January 2022.

How has the course Helped me?

The apprenticeship provided me with personal and professional growth including hands on learning, industry experience, valuable work experience, practical application of knowledge, and personal development. I was able to work with colleagues which supported me with my communication skills and confidence.

My Biggest Challenge

Employment was new to me and daunting at first, learning about the sector I worked in and working in a warehouse environment with colleagues was both challenging and rewarding. I initially struggled with time management, with Protocol and my employer supporting me by offering more flexibility. Preparation for End Point Assessment was my biggest challenge of which I passed both my practical, and question based knowledge tests to achieve my qualification.
