Software & Data Foundation Level 2 Apprenticeship Programme

The Software & Data Level 2 Foundation Apprenticeship is designed to give you a strong introduction to digital technologies, coding and data handling. Throughout the programme, you’ll develop practical skills in areas such as basic programming, data organisation, digital tools and problem-solving. With a focus on real-world application and employer-led learning, you’ll gain valuable experience, build your confidence and prepare for progression into a full apprenticeship or an entry-level role in the tech industry.

What is a foundation apprenticeship?

Foundation apprenticeships are employed roles that combine:

Real work experience
Off-the-job training
Employability skills and behaviours
Technical digital knowledge and skills
English and maths support where required

Employer incentives & funding

Under current Department for Education (DfE) Apprenticeship Funding Rules 2025/26:

Employers may qualify for up to £2,000 per Foundation Apprentice, subject to:

Learner retention
Successful progression outcomes

This makes Foundation Apprenticeships an excellent low-risk recruitment route for employers.

Incentives for recruiting 16-18 year old apprentices

Employers recruiting a learner aged 16-18 (or under 25 with an EHCP) onto a full apprenticeship may also qualify for:

£1,000 Government Incentive Payment

£500 after 90 days
£500 after 365 days

Training costs for 16-18 year olds are typically fully funded by the government.
