Why did you decide to join Protocol's pre-apprenticeship programme?

I first came across Protocol after applying for an apprenticeship through the government website. I was offered a pre-interview stage and that’s when I was introduced to the Pre-Apprenticeship Programme. I realised that I didn’t quite have all the knowledge or confidence I needed to step straight into an apprenticeship — and that’s when Protocol offered me their Pre-Apprenticeship Programme. The programme seemed like the perfect opportunity to build my skills, receive support and guidance and properly prepare for the next steps in my career.

What do you think of the training given by Protocol?

I really enjoyed my training with Protocol. The six-month course covers a wide variety of helpful topics. One highlight for me was the 10-week work placement which really helped me build confidence and apply the skills learnt whilst completing responsibilities within a work environment. My tutor, Jodie, made the sessions fun and supportive. The groups are often kept small, which creates a friendly and encouraging atmosphere.

How has Protocol helped you develop your skills?

Since joining Protocol, I’ve developed so many skills. My confidence and communication have really improved over the six months and that’s made a big difference. On top of that, I picked up practical skills during my work placement — things like using a phone professionally, working with computers and handling office equipment. It’s all helped me feel much more prepared for the workplace.

What are your next steps after Protocol's pre-apprenticeship programme?

Protocol have offered me a business administration apprenticeship programme at the company, working alongside their administration team. It feels like a great step forward in my career and I look forward to implementing all the skills and behaviours I have learnt within my job responsibilities.

What advice would you give to anyone who wants to join Protocol's pre-apprenticeship programme?

If you’re unsure about what you can do next or don’t feel ready for an apprenticeship yet, Protocol’s Pre-Apprenticeship Programme is the perfect starting point. It gives you the skills, confidence and valuable experience you will require to take that next step into work or further training.
